Windows Media player will play mp3 file on my computer if they are commercial mp3s. But it won't play mp3 files that I create or telesemars, etc that I get from other people in mp3 format.

When I try to play them in Windows Media player, there is no error,  it looks like it is playing but there is no sound.

These files will play in Quicktime or VLC.

Any idea why? I would like to fix this not only for myself but I'm sure some of my customers will run into
this and need to correct this also.

Thanks, Ron

I would not be so sure... it may be a bug on your computer only. Ask someone to test it for you or test it on another computer.

There is no reason for Windows Media Player not to play your mp3.

Of course windows media player can get really buggy and not play lots of media files when things go south.

I have been finding myself that visitors to my sites sometimes say that.  Although it doesn't happen often, we can't seem to work through the problem.

There does seem to be a consistent element that they're on windows xp on a pc.

My belief is that it has something to do with windows media player and firefox.

Once upon a time MP3's always played within the browser, and I see now on my own pc (which I don't use as often as the apple) that when there's an MP3 to play it always launches windows media player (when in the past it didn't do that.)

It seems that the timing would likely be, that it is since the last update to firefox.

There's always the challenge that we can't control how people set up their computers and their web browsers, so even though it might work fine for hundreds or thousands of people, there will be unfortunately SOME people that will continue to have problems.
