Social Networking At It's Finest

Social networking, social media, forums, StumbleUpon, Digg, FriendFeed, Twitter...
It's all about communication and building relationships.

Never was I made more aware of the very real power in these connections than today when I read this email from Bev Clement:

Hi Lisa, thought you might like to see the email I've just sent my list. Hopefully
some of them will buy. I have a couple of guru (who I call gurus) on the list
who have large lists. One other thing, have a buy a beer button or design a
button which says "Buy the dog a bone " and let people donate as well.

Are you on twitter? I am, and I have met some really great people. You know the
ones who use it to talk and build friendships. I'm going to tell you about one such
person, her name is Lisa. Lisa and I have been friends now for a couple of months,
and one night I was on twitter, when Lisa said she had received the most
awful news. Her sister's house was on fire.

Lisa's sister, children (one 16 and one 14), and dog all went to Lisa's to live. The
problem was that they had lost everything, seriously, they only had the clothes on their
backs. Yes, they were really grateful that they were all alive, thanks to Piper
the dog waking them up.

Over the next day or two, Lisa was talking to a lot of us, and she planned to put
a real fire sale in place. Many of us were able to go to our computers and find a
suitable product to be added to the sale.

This is what real friendship is all about. I might not have met Lisa and her family
in person, but we have talked and communicated via skype, email, forums as
well as places like twitter.

The family are with Lisa, but Carol has to drive to work each day, and you know
what the price of gas is like now. In Canada where they live it is almost $6 a gallon.

Imagine for a moment what it would be like if you lost everything, and then had to
lose a large part of your wages, because you have to pay for gas. It doesn't help
you to get life back on track.

So many marketers put together a firesale when they want to raise some extra
cash for a wedding or to pay for an expense when they don't want to use the
money they have in the bank.

But, never do you find a marketer running a firesale because there has been a
fire.

Many of us are here helping Carol and the family to start to get their
lives back together.

I was thinking about product launches recently and how so many don't tell you
about the product being sold, but they focus on the bonuses being given. The bonus
becomes more important than the product.

That email was written straight from Bev's heart - she knew what had happened WHEN it happened, through Twitter. And I was amazed when Bev and others came out of the woodwork to offer products, services and promotion.

Bev provided a KILLER package of PLR materials (you'll see that in the OTO) that you wouldn't believe. It's amazing, the generosity and kindness prevalent in our little community.

Since I opened the doors a few hours ago, I've been inundated with people offering their help, adding even more products - some you just simply won't believe until you see them!!

Anyway, I just wanted to pay tribute to that beautiful, thoughtful email Bev wrote - it was wonderful... and showcase some of the wonderful things that social networking can bring about.

Next time someone say they "don't see the point in Twitter", point them to this thread.
