Great list Lisa!

It's value is not only in the quantity of directories you provided but
that you can submit to them as you mentioned - "without needing
a reciprocal link!" I also appreciate that you have provided them in
order of Google page rank.      :)

I came across some lists recently of blog and RSS directories that
you all may find of some value.     Many of them probably do require
a reciprocal link.     Just make sure you work on Lisa's list first.     :)

This website also provides a submitter but it may be best to submit
manually to these sites the first time around.     This way you can
become familiar with each directory and it's submission process.

Yes, it's exactly like that.
Most people simply wait for Google's natural indexing of your site, and while that is fine, submitting to all of the different directories not only gives you backlinks to your blog, but allows you to be found by people searching in more places.
Google, Yahoo and MSN are good places to begin, but it's important to have as many references to your site as possible.
