My thought is this.....if your business income is twice what you get from your regular job paycheck... then why not? Smiley

As a coach, I would tell you to make the switch AFTER you are earning enough to support yourself through your online business for at least 4 months.

Too many people have made the switch too early and, since marketing has a natural ebb and flow, they've gotten themselves in a financial pickle.

If you are able to meet your basic needs solely through your internet marketing efforts, and have consistently earned enough online to meet your basic needs for 4 months or more, then you're financially positioned to take the plunge.

Good luck!!

Remember the "benefits" when looking at the money situation. In particular, make sure you are bringing in enough to cover insurance and still be making as much as (or more than) your current job. And make sure you factor in the "Self Employment" taxes and the like. In general, you can just about break even at somewhere between 150% and 200% of your nominal salary/pay.

Hi Victor,

Two months...four months.

Personally, I think you are getting bad advice IF you are the sole support of yourself or a family.

Now, if you live in your mom's basement and won't find yourself out in the street if it doesn't work,
that may be different.

The average financial planner will tell you to have six months of income socked away. (including benefits and the employer-side taxes that you will now be paying ).

You should not consider leaving your job until you have this done.

What are you doing online now? How much are you making? What are your business expenses? What is
your NET profit?  What will you need to do to CONSISTENTLY replace that income?

I have seen too many people make foolish decisions based on a couple of months of success online. Make sure you know exactly what it will take, and have accomplished that month in and month out on a consistent basis before giving it up.

I personally know too many people marketing online that are DEAD BROKE because they were stupid with money. Obviously, you'll never see anyone admit to anything but riches on the Internet because many of their products sell the dream.

Be smart. The Internet is a big world and will still be around whether you quit your job today, in six months, or a year.  Don't put additional financial stress on your business by jumping in too quickly.

Exactly!

I am now earning solely from the business that I get online.  People see my site and they make an order for one or ten articles depending on their need. I am doing just fine....some months I get lots, some months I get just enough to meet the bills.

Before I started though, I was employed...and I actually worked double time like crazy so that my online freelancing income would approximate my salary. After several months of having done so and putting away some money for a buffer fund...I did away with the job.

So now I am happy! Proper planning and preparation prevents poverty. LOL.

Really if i have anything to fear it would be the fear of failure but i think failure only comes to those who have faith in it, i really understands debbies point of view as a matured experienced lady she makes alot of sence and i appreciate it but yet if there are no failures theres noting to learn from but truely i wish there wasnt, but il go for it still, am too motivated to stop now.
