Over the last couple of months I have been setting up membership sites using wordpress and was wondering if anyone else is doing the same.

I looked at all the membership software and while it was good it required quite a bit to set up and then making pages etc seemed to be a tiresome process.

Wordpress makes it all very easy using the CMS feature and you can drive traffic using posts etc so has a double edged effect.

I would be really interested to see any other wordpress membership sites.

I created two membership sites with wordpress.  Both were free of charge. . .  I was mainly interested in capturing the name and email.

I since have removed the membership portion from one of the blogs.  The other has long been neglected with no updates in a very long time.  However, I do still get signups. . .  almost everyday.

I control access with . htaccess.  They are emailed the username and password after an optin confirmation.
There has not been any interaction with the members, like I said, I haven't kept it updated and it is currently on a backburner.

I can pm you the web site if you are interested in looking.  I can send the squeeze page or the entry page with username and password. . .  or both.

I would also be interested in knowing how you handle assigning usernames and passwords??

Let me know if you want to take a look,

J. K.

Hi Jk

What I do is change the registration and the login php files to something unique and this means that no one can hack in unless they find those two pages.

lets face it everyone will look for wp-admin then go and register so I just change these and do other stuff to make it more secure.

Works really well.

yep that is good one to Kyle but if you don't want to go through all that trouble you can just make wordpress do it all pretty well. While it does not automate the payments I get very few people canceling so automating payment is not such a big deal. Just set it all up through Paypal or 2 checkout and they advise if it is canceled and you just go delete that persons account.

The problem I had with some of the automations is that if they canceled half way through the month I think they should still get what they paid for so I don't delete them till the end of the month.

It has been amazing that some have come back just because I could send them a personal note and advise them that it was sad to see them leave etc and keep their account open.

Remember most loose out because of poor service or automating everything and leaving no room for personal support.

One customer I wrote to loved the service so much they have refered a heap more customers. So sometimes manually doing this stuff pays big dividends. I don't mind 5 minutes for an extra few hundred dollars a month.

Hi Quentin,

Thanks for sharing this.  I have a wordpress blog already installed on a site for this purpose.  Your tutorials are just what I need.  I have bookmarked your site in my "to buy at the first of the month" folder.  :-\

One thing that I wasn't to clear about at your site.  Is that fee for the first month of your membership or a one time access fee to your video package?

Think, Write & RETIRE!

I've taken a slightly different route by placing my WP installation
within a password protected directory - and then having the
membership process set up in other ways (like using scripts,
or even just PayPal subscription buttons) - with the 'thank you'
page giving details about accessing the private blog.

I recently bought a report as a WSO called "Pay Site Secrets Exposed"
- www.PaySiteSecretsExposed.com - which revealed some nice
tweaks and extras that I've also included in my process.

All success

Hey Quentin,

the only issue most people setting up wordpress
membership site is if they want to make it so
customers can refer visitors to the site.

So far I have found a solution that work with
wordpress which is free or paid that would give customer
links to promote.

Any ideas?

I have been looking for a solution in this regard too.

Amember has an affiliate program built in to it. However, I have not used their Wordpress plugin yet. I want a solution that will allow me to protect just certain areas while leaving the rest open to the public.

Guess I should research the WP plugin for Amember a bit...

Quentin,
One thing I have been looking for in a membership site is the ability for the first few lines of an article within that membership site to be viewable by the search engines to peak interest and then they would have to login to read the rest of the article.   Does your solution allow for that?
