If I were you I would do option b - i. e start your online business.   You have some savings + your wife job can act as temporary filler.   It will be scary to begin but everyday you take specific steps your success will be closer.   Now here are some quick steps to get started:

1) Building your List.   Create a squeese page or a giveaway page.   Just create a 1 page that give away a 1 hour video tutorial .   You could take this from your 30 hour video tutorial content you plan to sell.   The give away page must require the person to type in name and email address to get this free 1 hour video tutorial

2) Start writing 1 article a day around the market you plan to sell your content and submit to article directories.

3) You can use Google PPC to adverstise your product.   But I highly recommend you do not go there until you become familiar with this tool.   There is a free video tutorial on how to use Google PPC on my site that can help if you need this.

You're in good shape.   Why not take a risk. . .  with a stop gap?

You don't mention (or I didn't see) how much experience you have in IM.   That you've "been thinking" about it, doesn't mean you "know" about how to succeed at it.   And. . .  you've got a family depending on you.

Explore what people are ALREADY buying.  Figure out what your Unique Selling Proposition is.   Launch.   Fail.  Repeat until:

1) You succeed; or

2) you only have 6 months of living expenses left AND you haven't been able to obtain enough outside investment to a) live off of; and b) pay ALL of your business expenses

IMHO successful Internet entrepreneurship is a combination of creative persistence, genius and luck.   In the mean time. . .  both your psyche and your family demand that you contribute work in exchange for pay.

Pursue your dreams. . .  but set a waymarker for when it's time to try something else.

I have been fired for a teaching job. But I have 3 other sources of income. My accounting practice  took over. I also have a shopping cart on the net. I also get a pension from the IRS for working for them for 15 years of my life. I also have an van guard accoutant. But with the ecomony right now it is not doing to good.  All my business all taking a hit right now, with this damn ecomony.
