What are the copyright issues I would have to deal with if I wanted to write an e-book or training website based on information I gathered through personal training?

Two examples:

Example 1: I have had approximately 20 hours of personal training by a federation International chess master. I have applied what he has taught me to increase my playing ability over the last three years. What are the possible legal roadblocks I would encounter if I tried to write an e-book basically regurgitating the though process and skills he has taught me?

Example 2: I have been seeing relationship and personal counselors sporadically over the last three years. I have learned a lot of tools from them on how to cope with various forms of relationships (business, personal, family, etc.). Can I sell the knowledge I have gained through these sessions or is there some sort of intellectual copyright on their information?

As long as you are not writing directly from information your instructor wrote and printed you will not be infringing on any copyright.  Just write the book from your head using your own words and it's yours and yours alone.  If you go to the US copyright site (it's  a dot gov site) you can get free information.  Or go to your local library and check out a book or two.  It's really quite simple.  In fact, by law, anything created after 1975 automatically gets you a copyright whether you have the circle c on it or not.
