One of the things I always liked about this forum is the more laid back atmosphere. Slower, quieter, etc.

But I think we've gotten TOO quiet.

 blake Tony!  blake

Where have you gone?  I see you on Facebook, but not here all that much.  Are you letting the forum die out altogether?

Some of the forum sections have not had a post in OVER a year.  This section shows posts dating back about a year, still on the front page.

There's some great content in here. It's a shame to let it go to waste...

Hi Mike
Many forums have gone the same way. It would appear many that used to frequent forums now frequent social media and chat rooms.

Yep, seems to include the forum owner too... LOL!

It's too bad. A site like FB is cool, but information comes and goes so quickly, never to be found again (when you can find something worthwhile). But forums like this one - the gold nuggets are easy to find.

(sigh)

Maybe it's time to call Tony...

Hey Guys

I've been away for  awhile myself. Facebook is OK but I don't like it that much. I guess I'm just not comfortable with it yet.

I'm still not on twitter. As far as I'm concerned I think forums like this provides better revelant content and better quality too. People should post more often here.

I don't think Ablake Forum is going away....just rolling with the punches like all the rest of us.

Cheers

Forums for solid, high-level business discussions are not exactly popular these days.

But, if you want to know how to create fake Facebook pages, buy some likes, and spam a few links, people are all over that.

One of the things I always liked about this forum is the more laid back atmosphere. Slower, quieter, etc.

But I think we've gotten TOO quiet.

Laid back and quiet, it is too bad you weren't here 1998 to 2003+.  One post might get 100+ (within hours) replies and the debates were very heated but extremely helpful and thought provoking.  Laid back and quiet it wasn't. But helping get a new Internet business up and running that you could do. Literally, hundreds of businesses were stated here on Tony's forum.

People in IM who are somewhat famous now, were complete noobs back in the day and came to Tony's forum for education and seek TB's input. It was not uncommon for Simon Grabowski posting about a new autoresponder he was developing (Tom Kulzer would also be posting) John Reese and Frank Kern coming on asking completely noobie questions.

Sanford Wallace might pop in to liven up the discussion. Yanik Silver, Corey Rudl were regulars. Willie Crawford posted most everyday.  Adam Katz the dog training guy got his start on Tony's forum - seems like yesterday that he was asking questions about setting up a membership site and forum.

The much banned Don Alm was a regular. Jim Straw who it seemed was doing direct marketing was a regular. Adrian Ling was there as well as Michael Ross and a snot nosed kid Anik Singal.

One thing during this time Tony had double, triple or even more traffic than Allen Says had at the Warrior forum.  I can't remember the reason but Tony didn't like the guy and used to bust his ass all the time.

During that time this was the go to place for all things IM or actually all marketing stuff in general.

Oh, Gary Halbert even made a some posts back in the day.  The great copywriter Brian Keith Voiles (who wrote a great deal for Gary) was a regular and good friend of Tony's.

I have left out many of the old crew who got their start here.  It is very sad to see that if this site was a horse it would be put down.

But Tony was the driving force behind the forum without his daily postings this forum is as good as dead.  For whatever reason Tony decided that the forum was not one of his priorities.

If you want to keep up with cutting edge SEO you really need to spend some time on the Russian forums. We recently lost a pretty good forum when backlinksforum.com closed.  The Warrior forum is very close to being worthless.  Just garbage WSO's being sold to "warriors".  I much prefer wickedfire and BHW now.  BTW, Jon at Wickedfire picked up abusing Allen Says from where Tony left off.

For the few people posting here you just don't know what you missed - and it is too late for TB to resurrect this place. Once the magic is gone it - that is it - it is over.

I hope Tony is having fun at whatever he chose to do but don't let a once great place whither away just close it down.

DR

PS My apologies to the hundreds other posters from the past who I omitted.

Hi DR,

Thanks for posting.

Actually I have been frequenting Tony's forums since 1999 or 2000, so I do indeed remember those times. Which is one reason I made this post.  Every day I read the posts on WF, Tony's board and Michael Green's How To Forum.

Ah, those were the days...

I took my dog for a walk.

Some of the drop off is forums have died as a platform. I used to go to Jill Whalen's HigherRankings Forum daily to learn about SEO. 5 years ago there were dozens of posts a day with hundreds of people participating in the discussions. Today there are 5 or 6 posts a day, and maybe 10 regular users.

Some of it is it's more difficult to use the boards with categories and such. They don't lend themselves to discussions like the old boards with one string of posts.

Some of it certainly is the turn-over in the audience. I go to a VW forum that has great participation. They have ongoing threads with over 8000 replies on them. The audience doesn't turn over much, and there is a constant stream of new people coming in.

This leads me to my last reason why people have left. There needs to by a synergy or gestalt of regular users who are outspoken and provocative. This creates a community where lurkers can be slowly enticed to start interacting. Without the energy of the members sounding off, the visitors will leave and not come back.

A person sitting on a park bench reading the paper doesn't attract a crowd. 3 people sitting on a park bench won't attract a crowd. 15-20 people standing around watching something will start to grow.

Hey everyone. . . . I think when Tony change the format of this forum it change everything.  I know tony was trying to go with the flow, but some things need to be left alone! Tony's forum many years ago had a more open feel to it. . . Where you could read all the post that was posted with one quick glance.  Everything was open back than.

Just my thoughts on the matter!

Funny, I was just coming back, haven't been here for a while, to see how it was going. Guess I know now. There were posters when I was here last, not many, but a few.

Ya, it is sad, to see a place that you can speak your mind and not get deleted, go the way of the tumbleweeds.
