I caught up with Tony at Yanik Silvers Underground Seminar in LA

Tony invited me to post here about a young Chinese girl that I have been helping in China.

Her name is Chen Chao and last year, as a young very beautiful 12 year old, she innocently let a puppy into her home.

Chen Chao's cousin, a 23 year old man, has a mental illness.   After she let the puppy into her home, he went to a local hardware store, bought a huge container of sulphuric acid, and poured it all over her.

I first heard about Chen Chao in November when I was out giving away some money to people in need that a US client had handed me and told me to "Give this to some poor people"

I was having a great time giving his money away when I came upon a group of young people holding a long poster outside a shopping center.

I stopped to read it and saw a beautiful Chinese girl - happy and smiling.   Then, as I walked a few steps to my right, I saw what had happened to her.

My Chinese friend took one look and said to me; "Chris, this girl should give up and die"

It was as if everything stood still.   All the noise in the street was gone and all I could do was stand there and think: "Someone, somewhere should do something to help this girl"

Yanik Silver handed me a generous check in LA to give to her parents.    I have been back here a few months now and am about to start doing something in earnest.

I could say more but for now, I just want to encourage you to check out the video below:

Chris

This is a tragic story, however, and I will no doubt get some reaction to this, but there is a time and place for things like this, and I, personally, don't think a Forum like this is "the place".  Obviously Tony disagrees with this, in allowing such a post.  I honestly hope it doesn't start a flood.

God bless you, Chris, for your efforts, I sincerely hope they are not in vain.

Just my own personal thoughts - out in the open - and I feel better for it!

Jo...

If it's one thing we know about those that frequent my forum (the old one and hopefully this new one) is that they are a caring and generous group...

A couple of years ago my friend Jim Wilson shared a story about a young man, Sean Hargreaves,  who was suffering with leukemia... Sean's father was a firefighter that worked with Jim and through their fire department they started a fund to help both the family as well as the young man out through the ordeal...

We told the story of Sean on the old board... we adopted the young man as one of our own, received regular updates on his health and care and continued to raise funds to help him and his family out...... and because of the caring and generosity of this board we were able to not only help the family with expenses (Sean was being taken care of in a hospital in Boston, far away from his home in Florida) but we were also able to get him a laptop computer so that he could communicate with his friends and family while going through the medical procedures at the hospital...

Unfortunately on Dec. 19, 2006 Sean passed away from his illness... we, as a board, grieved his passing as we had come to know him as one of us...

When I met Chris Bloor at Yanik's Underground event he told me about Chen Chao and the ordeal she had both gone through and is going through now... the pain, sorrow and tears in Chris' eyes told me everything I needed to know and right then and there I told him that the board would help him help Chen Chao and her family... I gave him carte blanche to tell the story, share with us the experiences and reach into our souls so we could help...

While this is a entrepreneurial/marketing board we are also caring, loving humans - ones who can see and understand tragedy and pain... as marketers we have, hopefully, some talents and gifts that we can use in cases like this... as humans we have, hopefully, caring souls that will compel us to reach out and help others with heavy burdens such as the ones that Chen Chao's family is carrying...

This is a very special case, not one of those "I woke up yesterday and found that I have a boil and I need $$$ for treatment"... while in some cases we will see the need to help others here on the board, something like this, something so extraordinary and heart wrenching is something that should be paramount in our attention... yes, I know there are millions of tragic stories and people we can and should help... you and I both know that we can't help everyone - but maybe if we just help this one poor child, this beautiful creature of God that has been so horribly mutilated and whose life has been so drastically changed, we CAN help open the gates across the Internet, across marketers, to help and affect change for others...

This story touched my heart deeply... I related it to my sweet, beautiful and very close 12-year old niece Kassie (I have no children) and thought "what if this had happened to her?" -- and the picture in my mind was so horrendous, so painful, so personal that I know I COULD NOT not help Chris and Chen Chao...

In the past helping out others has not created a flood... I don't see it creating one now (and if it does we'll deal with it)... right now all I care is in helping Chris - just like we helped Sean and his family during their need...

Let's show the world, the marketing community, what "Blakers" are really about - that we go well beyond building businesses or making money or just discussing how to generate more profits -- that we are a caring group that is willing to reach out and help and give some love -- something this market, this arena, this world is often quite short of...

Success!!!

Tony thank you for letting Chris post this. This little girl isn't that far from the earthquake as well.

As someone who has lived in China, who has worked with Chinese, I saw things in that interview that many people wouldn't have seen. The father in the middle of it all still tried to be Chinese, there were unsaid things but expression of body which said a whole lot more.

We sent it to friends, and already we have people asking how they can give.

We have contacted some friends (Westerners) who are in the area, to see if they can help.

I don't know the hospital, but I do know that many hospitals don't give food to patients, family members have to bring it in. This family will need food for their daughter as well as themselves. The family will need finance for all the treatment this little girl will need for a very long time.

Yes it is cheap compared to the States, but when you consider the average wage is about $100 US a month, the family will have little to spare.

Sorry, having lived there for just over 3 years, and travelled there since 2000 I know the people. These people have a huge chunk of my heart, so thank you Chris, you understand what I am saying, and thanks Tony for letting Chris share.

Chris and Tony,

I agree 100% that this "IS" the place to post something like this.  We are all humans first and foremost and are all put on this earth to do good with our lives.  What better opportunity to be able to help this wonderful little girl and her family during this devastating time in their lives.

Please post how we may help and what is needed?  Also who will be coordinating this effort of kindness and love for Chen Choa and her family?

There is no better time to stand up with a grateful heart and reach out to help another family.

Chris, Chen Choa and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Please keep us updated on the progress of this effort and Chen Choa's progress.

I don't want to come off as sounding inhuman, but honestly I am getting tired of hearing about people from China one of the richest if not the richest country today and Africa.  What about the people in the US and in other countries that need help and have stories of hardship?

Personally I am an a American that could probably make you cry with my story about rags to riches to rags again and that I have a incurable disease called Multiple Sclerosis and COPD and a wonderful wife that has stuck with me and is supporting myself, her 15 year old son and her self on what she gets from unemployment (she lost her job on Feb 2nd, she was in the steel industry) and she hasn't been able to find a job yet and her benefits run out next month.  We have no health insurance so I haven't been to a doctor in months and have gone without most of my medications also.

Or maybe how our house is literary falling apart around us because I can't work on it and we do not have the money to fix it, I try to do something when I have enough energy but everyday it gets harder and harder to move around.

I know there are people that have it harder then us and I can deal with that, what I can't deal with is why we do not take care of our own.  Here in the US we have Actors rushing to China and Africa yet they will not spend a dime to help a fellow American and the US Government isn't much better.  They rather borrow money from China to send back to china for earthquake victims and suck the life out of the tax payer to pay it back leaving thousands of kids starving just so we can look good in the world press.

Am I critical, yes very! I have been in the News business and see what gets on air and what doesn't and it is a shame we do not air more of what is happening in our own country and I am sure other countries have the same problems.  I have worked most of my life and paid my taxes like a good taxpayer and what do I get when I need benefits? Nothing, NADA.  I was on SSI at onetime until they took that away from me when I got married.  Where is the help for all the armed forces that are coming back from a war that we should have never started that are maimed? We rather send money to other countries then help those here at home and make the tax payer pay for it.

Well I have to get off my soapbox now as I could go on for hours.  I do feel sorry for the little girl, I never want to see a child hurt which is why I got out of the News Business after seeing so many dead babies throughout New York and I wish her well, but we need to start taking care of our own.

We all have sob stories and need help from time to time.  I don't see a reason whatsoever if you are a member of this board and truly need the help or someone is an advocate for you to not post it here. (or maybe in it's own section of course and also under the eyes of the Admins here).

I mean ...hey...if I got hit by a mack truck tomorrow and my family or I needed help to get me well again...I'd hope somebody would help me in my time of need.

Isn't there other things to debate about OTHER than posters who posts for help in this type of regard?

Help if you can..if you don't want to or don't agree with it...than just move on to another thread.  What's the big deal?

My 2 cents...

P.S. (Hope I didn't jinx myself with the mack truck thingy...that would totally suck)

Scott...

I'm not going to disagree with you about your opinion... in fact I agree with almost all of it...

This is not about China the country, or the government or its society... I'm not a fan of China (or most African countries because of the abuse of their people and theft from those that give aid to those that could use it)...

This is about one thing only - one child... and whether she's Chinese or German or Brazilian or American doesn't matter in this equation - it's about the horrendous, vile act that was perpetrated on her and the ability of many of us to help her and her family out... it's about Chen Chao only and nothing else... it is about trying to help one life survive and cope with the incredible circumstances that have befallen them... it's about humans helping humans, not countries or people, humans...

I too believe that charity and assistance begins at home... we trip all over ourselves to help other countries - our government vomits all over itself giving other countries (and dictators) financial assistance and aid - often getting spit upon by the same people that we've helped... we sometimes care about the peoples of other countries more than our own, following idiot "ambassadors" like Angelina Jolie and others in offering assistance (only to have that assistance ripped off by the powers that be)...

The world and people will never be perfect, no matter what some liberal lefty tells you... there will never be equality and unity... we are too diverse in our beliefs, thoughts, opinions, religions, politics, lives for everything to be cohesive... world peace is a fallacy perpetrated by those that want to instill their own type of politics, their own type of control - there will alway be someone who has more power or money or force - and there will always be oppressed, downtrodden, poor and helpless people...

When I see a child like Chen Chao my heart cries for them... I cry when I see poor children in Africa, I cry when I see poor children in South America... I cry when I see poor children right here in the USA - I see what they are missing, the opportunities that are passing them by, the hard life they are living... and it tears me apart...

So how can I or anyone else NOT help a child like Chen Chao... how can we turn away and say "no, I won't because you won't help us"... this is not about us against them, it's about one human (or many) reaching out and making the life of another human a little bit better... whether that be monetarily or by helping get services or by simply praying for them...

Do we need to help our own? Unequivocally yes... we are extremely deficient in this matter... and I agree with you 110% on that point... our own government often turns a blind-eye to our own plight... but sometimes a story, an event, a person like Chen Chao comes along and you see an opportunity to help another human being without looking at borders or politics or countries or religions or beliefs... no one is demanding help from anyone, no one is passing a hat begging for funds... what Chris has done (Chris is Australian by the way) is bring this story to us and asked us for our help in any way we can - be that monetarily or spiritually... a prayer can be just as powerful and probably has greater value...

In the long run it's basically about one thing and one thing only -- caring...

Success!!!

Scott if the truth be told, I'm fed up with American's whinging about their lot in life. China might be a rich country in your eyes, but the people are not. At least they haven't double or tripled their mortgage just to have the latest toy, or the newest car, and than complain at the cost of gas.

You should try living in Britain.

I'm not an American, I am British who left my home country with my husband to go and work in China. If this sounds harsh then I'm sorry, but the world is bigger than America, and Chen Chao didn't choose to be born in China to have people saying we should look after our own. You would be surprised at how much the local people are helping, I know the Chinese people, and they do help.

You are talking about a people who when the earthquake hit, helped each other, yes we have friends who have been affected by it. It wasn't a case of I want, but I have some money, I will buy water for everybody. Friends evacuated their building with their 1 year old, and local people went out to buy a hat and shoes for the baby because they didn't have time to grab them, and were sitting in the sun for hours before being let back inside. Whereas, your people as you say, at Katrina went ransacking building, taking whatever they could. There is a huge difference.

Well using your logic, I would only help my fellow Brits but my heart doesn't just get affected by Brits, it is as Tony says reacting to a need.

Scott. . .
I really agree with you.  Your points are very valid.

When it comes to a child though.  I would help them all if I could. . . Her cousin with the mental illness. . . if it were my child he'd be dead now.  Then I would be torturing myself forever knowing that I left him around her.

But yeah I totally agree with you though too Scott.  Oprah and her only caring about africa because american kids wouldn't appreciate it pissed me off to no end.

. . . stars will fly off to god knows where to look cool.  But how many of them showed up after Katrina? Count them on 1 hand? heh

Sure more started popping up when the needed publicity 3 months later. . .

I've been to Spain, France, Turkey, Mexico. . . and America is pretty damn screwed up with how we take care of our own.  But I would never leave it either. . . not comparing it to where I have visited.

In the end I would like to say that I did what I could. I  confess that I cannot
bring myself to watch the video. Just tell me how can I help.

The children, why do the children have to suffer ?

The only explanation that I conclude is that we have an enemy that hates
us more than we can ever imagine and he is hitting us where we hurt the most.

Chris, I think what you're doing (and Tony is encouraging. . . bravo!) is very admirable.   The housing thing is not needed, IMHO as much as the medical care, present and on-going that the child will need.   Her parents sold their house to pay for her care. . . that should tell us something.

The Ipod to help her ease the agonizing hours and encourage her music aspirations is wonderful and I fully agree with what you and the Silvers did there.   Just a slight difference of opinion on approaches but, either way, let's get them help in whatever way we can.

Chinese, like many of us, are very proud people and I think it is to their credit that the parents allowed the video and appeal.   God bless all of them.

G'Day Folks

A client of mine in the USA has just asked his church in South Dakota if they can open an account for people to donate to help Chan Chao and her parents.  That way anything people give will be a tax deduction.

NOTE: I know the people personally that run the church and can promise 100% of anything given will go direct to help Chen Chao.

The parents get about Yuan 300 a month from the government and have to find EVERYTHING from that.

Y300 is about USD43.27  I have been to China 8 times now and I cannot imagine how hard it must be for them on such a low income. Even by Chinese standards that is very little.

I will be uploading some pictures to one of my sites in the next few days and am working on a new information product with a client in the USA who has been online for about 3 years and is making $110,000 a month selling eBooks. Several other experts have agreed to help with that.

The idea is to donate 100% of the profits from that product to help this precious girl and her family.

Also, I will be putting together a page full of downloads for anyone here that decides to give.

On a personal note, I want to say a HUGE thank you to Tony and the rest of you for caring about this little girl.  When you see her BEFORE pictures, you will be astounded at how beautiful she was before this terrible attack.

My aim is to return to China by October.

As many of you know, I am a copywriter. Have been for 9 years now. I  just wish I had the right words to say what any help will mean to Chen Chao's parents.

I don't.

When I first saw Chen Chao, I thought: "If this was my child, I would want to climb to the top of the building a jump off"

They on the other hand, sit by her side each day. Talking to her... telling her they love her.

It really isn't about Chinese, Australian, Americans, Brits etc - this is just people reaching out to people.

I'll post here in a couple of days when the new pictures are uploaded.

Warm Regards

Chris Bloor

PS Medical Treatment... My good friend. Scott Saunders MD from NaturaleDoctor.com  gave me some questions to ask her doctors in China. They confirmed that Chen Chao will need extensive surgery - none of which her parents can afford.

Her Mom told me "I love Chen Chao with all my heart and it would break my heart to say goodbye to her but do you think anyone in the USA would adopt her so she can get treatment?"

Can you imagine how I felt looking at this Mother and having to tell her that, "No one would want to adopt Chen Chao"  Hopefully, we can find a hospital in the USA or Australia that will help...
